Was spending the night in the area and had to find some good seafood to eat. Looked at the reviews and decided on Captain Dave's. I was not disappointed. I was quickly seated upstairs and my waiter Adam was quick to explain all the specials. I settled on the blackened mahi-mahi with crab meat on top. Service was quick and friendly. As mentioned in other reviews the blackened mahi can be (and was) a little salty, but it was acceptable. I will be back if I am in th area again.

First, The wine list is RETAIL if your are from OHIO!!!! When we look at wines we know specifically, it is almost at retail or within a couple of bucks, and NO we are not talking about yellow tail. The hush puppies are fun with a raspberry butter, and the food was very palatable. " A fun place in the board walk at murells inlet". I would recommend with children.

Good food and a nice location. This place won't knock anyone's socks off and it won't disappoint. The deck is nice and the complimentary hush puppies were great. Best item we had on the menu were the side-item crab cakes.

Captain Dave's used to be our go to spot for Grand Strand Shrimp and Grits. My husband once described his dinner as the perfect "death row" meal. Needless to say, we were sorely disappointed when we took our son last night. Our meals were heavy on the gravy and lacking much else. In days gone by, my shrimp and grits would be plated and feature a generous portion of creamy grits with shrimp and sausage, topped with gravy. Last night, my meal was served in a bowl, and I was given a spoon. As I said, it was heavy on the gravy. What grits I could find would never be served by any true Southerner; they were runny - hence the need to put the meal in a bowl. Certainly a disappointment, especially for the hefty price tag. Our server said she noticed that the dish looked a bit soupy and blamed the grits debacle on the lunch cooks - so, I guess my grits were old and served without any QC. My husband had the grouper special with gumbo. A fabulous piece of fish was sadly drowned in the same gravy. The gumbo was good though. My son's meal was a fried seafood medley. His food was flavorful and nicely battered. I was glad he enjoyed his meal, but we'll be looking for a new restaurant on our next trip.

I had one of the most delicious meals I've ever eaten. Fresh triggerfish, lightly blackened and served over garlicky-buttery stone ground grits. Topped with bacon, green onions, and a subtle mustard sauce. Fish was perfectly cooked and totally scrumptious! Desserts are only so-so, but the entrees are fantastic, as is the service.

My boyfriend and I were vacationing in Myrtle Beach SC, at the end of May...when we were invited to join up with my parents, and my grandmother to have an early lunch. This was our first day in town, and we were excited upon pulling up to this picturesque little spot. Murrells Inlet was a little tough to find at first..But, boy, I'm sure glad that we did. This little strip is full of cute litte restaurants packed with flavor and character. The blue house on Murrells Inlet has been warmly welcoming guests since 1975. Most famous for serving up fresh-from-the-water fish and seafood, much of it prepared using their signature lump charcoal grill. Capt. Dave's has been written up in a variety of regional and national magazines over the years. What makes this place special you ask? Well, let me just say that when you enter the doors of this well-groomed, waterfront locale...You soon realize that you have found a very special place. The windows on the back wall allow guests to look out onto the water...Relaxing, beautiful, serene. This is atmosphere at it's finest. Light music is played, while attentive servers wait on you hand and foot. Definitely an upscale dining experience, Capt Dave's Dockside restaurant has beautiful decor, and and a breathtaking view. The color of the walls were a pale sea-green...which creates a calming affect...Definitely put me in my "vacation mood" Maybe it's just the way the Inlet looks from their deck, or maybe it's a combination of the live music and open kitchen inside - but regulars agree that Capt. Dave's is a Murrells must. For starters they brought out a basket of these amazing hushpuppies with a creamy rasberry butter spread. Let me just say..That these themselves...were worth the trip. Also, brought to the table for snacking on were the home-made potato chips...So much flavor...so cripsy. so yummy. We ordered seconds of these! We ordered frozen strawberry margaritas...which were alright. A little heavy on the ice..a little too slushy for my liking. I would recommend just sticking with the regular margaritas! Also, they over-filled our glasses and we had a little leaking situation that we had to tend to throughout our meal...But, the glasses themselves were really awesome...stainless steal margarita glasses...Wish I could have taken one home! I ordered the Cresent City Po Boy-Shrimp served traditional style on a french roll with shredded lettuce, pickles and crystal hot sauce. The hot sauce set this off and made my mouth water, and my nose was right there with it. I ordered the cole slaw and french fries on the side...Both were delicious. The slaw was fresh and had an interesting light, and summery taste. A couple of my family members ordered the Low Country Shrimp & Grits. Um, let me just say, im not a fan of grits...The texture has always been too mushy for my liking..but WOW, this entree was packed full of flavor, and simply made you automatically make the "are you kidding me" face. Talk about amazing! This is a house favorite made with domestic shrimp, andoullie sausage, and tasso ham gravy served over stone ground grits. Definitely would recommend this mouth watering plate of heaven. And for all of you seafood haters...I would recommend trying the charchoal grilled cheeseburger...This is a burger with lettuce, tomato, onion, and mushrooms, applewood bacon ( a chrissy favorite) and pickle..served with fries, chips or coleslaw. This place was fabulous...Truly a great experience....Oohhhhhs & Ahhhhhhs were heard throughout the meal..Plus quite a bit of silence...And silence in my family is always a good indicator that the food is hitting the spot!!!! The faces said it all on that day!!! A great find in Myrtle Beach!!! Food: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Service: 5 Recommendations: Shrimp Po Boy Hushpuppies with Rasberry Butter Homemade Potato Chips Low Country Shrimp & Grits Fried Fish Charchoal Grilled Cheeseburger P.S. Request a window seat overlooking the Inlet!!! Or check out their outdoor tiki bar-for a more casual feel. All in All: Seriously A Moutherwating Experience Found In Murrell's Inlet @ Myrtle Beach!!

So that's what it's like to eat dinner watching wild goats romp in a marsh. (Hey, it was a lot more fun that one would think! Goats - who knew? They're infinitely cute and cuddle-wish-inducing. ETA: I know, I know, goats are mean and eat your stuff. Acknowledged...but these from far away were still really fun to watch.) I really enjoyed my visit to Murrells Inlet (in general) & Capt. Dave's (in specific), partly because of the wildlife & the marsh walk, partly because the host understood when I said "I'd like a view," that I didn't mean "I'd like a view of other patrons who have a view," unlike at that other Captain's restaurant in Myrtle Beach, oceanside. From walking up and down the marsh walk more than a few times, it appears that many, if not all, of the other spots along this particular stretch are more typically burger or steak-and-a-starch and bottled bud/coors/miller lite - focused or marsh-side bars. Capt. Dave's is a bit more refined than that. Passable wine list, all of the interesting beer choices are bottled, only (bummer - at least the server didn't say whether any of the local options were available on draft vs. bottle, sad face). Wine is...well, what you'd expect. But it's better than neighbors. We had several of the seafood items: shrimp, salmon, fish special, grouper, and a couple of shrimp & grits orders, on various visits. Folks are right that their hushpuppies will bring your Paleo or Adkins or whatever diet to its knees. They are that good. Perfectly sized and fried, smartly served. Drooling just thinking about them...Hey, don't judge me! All seafood was prepared well. Including shrimp and grits. Not necessarily the best I've ever had, but grits were right - salted and well prepared. The rest of the recipe was, seafood-wise, ok, though not perfect, texture-wise. (Note: if you're attempting to enter from the marsh walk - side, the only entry to the restaurant (not just the deck) that appears ever open in usual business times is on the far right side, once you're up on the same level as the patio doors / windows. The center deck staircase does not lead to doors that open, nor does anything on the left side of the building (at least during my visit). On the street side, the building entrance is accessible and in the center of the place.) And the reason I'm mentioning this? Well, frankly, my experience indicates they'll watch you walk thru glass and bleed to death before actually helping direct you to an actual entrance to the place...bar or otherwise... But the view and the food was worth the visit. For anyone with a hearing impairment, do note that during peak service, it gets really loud inside (lots of hard surfaces for sound to bounce); if you can time your visit appropriately, though, you'll have a good time.

Basically don't order the steak....My meal was great! Others in group were not happy with their meal. I had the scallop shrimp combo meal seared w/ mashed potatoes. They were very accommodating when I changed menu item from fried to seared. Others at table sent food back for cold food and way overcooked steaks. I had a bite of the steak it was tasteless no marbling or fat and cooked more than ordered. Most meals were $25-28 plus drinks etc. Waitress was a hard worker, split are bill for us an didn't automatically charge tip even though we had a large group.

So disappointed. I wish I could give this place zero stars. Monday night, had reservations. Got here at 7:15, took FOURTY FIVE minutes for someone to "greet" us which she then took our order. No drinks, no hush puppies, no one telling us anything! Sat us in the corner next to the constantly opening door from Bubba's customers coming in to use the bathroom. Took an extra 15 minutes to get our drinks, she didn't even bring what I ordered. The waitresse's excuse was the bartender threw away her order. Yeah right. My mom and brother ordered the shrimp and crab bisque and it tasted like bland flour. Absolutely no flavor. My brother couldn't eat it. We ordered the grilled trio, filet, and my mom ordered the shrimp and grits she has had many times before here and just loved them previously, but instead she got a huge, greasy, swampy, MESS. Not to mention there's this eery blue lighting on everything that makes all your food look like a brown ugly mess hole. *see pics. My mom couldn't eat her meal. Was like grit stew with gravy. My fish on my trio was a mystery fish (even the menu doesn't say what it will be) and it tasted like nothing, tasted like the equivalent of me eating memory foam. Oh so now we're over an hour into our meal and the waitress is MIA and obviously at this point has considered our table a loss and just doesn't give a monkeys bung hole. The manager comes over and asks if our meals taste good. We told him we we're so disappointed compared to our previous experiences. He questioned us as to when when we were last at his restaurant and assured us his sauté chef has been the same...excuse excuses...he said he would take that meal off. Finally after more time the waitress comes over and berates my mom on why she didn't like it and "I eat it all the time and it's my favorite and I've never heard anyone say one bad thing about it!" Just stop. Oh also she never asked us if we wanted more beverages....over all from the very start this was one of the worst dining experiences we've ever had here at the beach. It's a shame because they lost some loyal customers and the waitress lost a great tip!! My mom is generally a 30% tipper even for mediocre service and this waitress missed out. SKIP THIS PLACE.

Best part about this place is the hush puppies. Edible food but BEYOND overpriced for what you're getting. THE SEAFOOD IS CLEARLY FROZEN, not fresh like they say. Besides being disappointed with the food, the chef made my entire family uncomfortable. Any establishment that speaks to its employees like that is one that I do not want to give my money to, and definitely don't want my kids around. He was yelling so loud the entire dining room could hear him! I felt bad for all of the employees. Don't support a business like that. It's a disgrace.
(1)Susan J.
The hush puppies were great but the food quality was so so for the price. For what we paid I wish we had gone somewhere else.

We have visited this restaurant while on vacation for the last three years and have always been pleased. Tonight when my husband said he wanted us to take him there for Father's Day dinner, we didn't hesitate. When we walked up to the hostess stand, the girl asked if we had reservations. We said no and was told there would be a 45 minute to an hour wait. We looked around and saw a number of empty tables so we knew it wouldn't be nearly that long. After sitting for 20 minutes, we watched as just one reservation arrived while three families without reservations came in requesting tables. The hostess discouraged all of them by telling them they had hour or longer waits... again, as numerous tables remained opened. Bottom line is they could have sat four families (including ours) and turned those tables prior to filling them with reservations. We left after the third time seeing one particular waitress hang out at the hostess stand looking bored. When I told the hostess to take our name off the list, I politely shared with her the reason we were leaving. She couldn't have cared less. A neighboring restaurant earned our money, and the money of at least three other families tonight... within 30 minutes. Smart managers know poor organization and arrogant staffers can ruin a restaurant business quickly, especially in a saturated market like Murrells Inlet. They also know the value of word of mouth reviews.

I am on the fence about this one.... I don't know if it really deserves 4 stars however I do think it is has potential . Beautiful setting in Murrell's Inlet. Sit on the patio for full effect. Order the seafood pasta and don't order an appetizer. They bring you hushpuppies and strawberry butter which is so yummy!! I had the best and most worst experience there ever only because the Oysters Rockafeller was the most disgusting thing I have ever eaten in my entire life!!! Frozen spinach and they place the oysters in this huge dish of salt! So gross....especially if you get the salt on the oyster. I almost get sick thinking about it.

In for dessert. Have to admit that we ate in the annex called Bubba's Love Shack... ie: is a BAR atmosphere to the Capt. Dave's Dockside Restaurant that shares kitchen and staff. The plus was that on this cold evening there was a roaring fire in the place. The Negative was that to use the restroom you had to leave the building to access the RRs in Docksides. My son had the apple puff pastry with scoop of vanilla ice cream. Was made for two. I opted for the Key Lime Pie... again enough to share with another. Visited January 2014

Service: Our waitress clearly had too many tables. She was frazzled and it took a significant amount of time to get service. When they finally brought our hush puppies, there were no plates. We then had to wait another 5+ minutes for plates in order to eat them. Food: The grits in the shrimp & grits were excellent, but the shrimp themselves were small and over cooked. My Grouper special was ok. The fish itself was crusted, but soggy from too much sauce. Two people ordered it and we both had upset stomachs within an hour of eating. Overall: Decent for a vacation location. Very overpriced.

This is the second time we dined here. The first time was a 3 1/2 star experience. The food was good. Tonight was a huge disappointment. Four of us went for dinner and the waitress recommended the special fillet mignon "nuggets" I would call them over Penne pasta and Rose sauce. It sounded so delicious we all ordered it. What a huge mistake! My husbands $25 entrée had 2 nuggets of alleged fillet mignon. They totaled about a half an ounce of meat. everyone was jealous because I had seven pieces of meat. Aside from the fact that they were tasteless, I felt guilty enough to share my measly portion with my husband. There was a huge amount of pasta with a bland sauce and a miniscule amount of meat. We were all disappointed. We had appetizers too and they were just okay. The only good thing I can say is they were the best hush puppies ever. We are done with this restaurant. We are locals and there are too many Great restaurants. The view is not worth it.

A beautiful setting for an amazing meal. We dined with a party of twelve, each dinner was as divine as the next. The servers were prompt and the food was exceptional. The pan seared grouper was to die for. My husband had the seafood trio which was equally as delicious. The view was just serene. My two small children also enjoyed the evening. It's a five star atmosphere which is also child friendly! Hard to find!! I would recommend this place to everyone. Just a great experience all around!!
(5)Bill H.
Pro's HushPuppies are the best I've ever had. Great View Got in quick on Friday night (Should have been a red Flag!) Hard working servers. Con's -Prices are high for the quality. -Kitchen serves both the restaurant and bar next door (Need to concentrate on one or the other. - Salad dressing was separated so I had to pour all the oil out to get some vinegar onto my salad from ramekin. - Overcooked my medrare steak (Steaks are thin, dont' bother unless allergic to seafood like me). Recook was good but slow coming out. - Took my plate back because someone wanted to see the steak, so I watched my family eat their entire meal before my recook came out. Manager never came to the table!!!!!!! Poor Management, need to train this person. - Salmon special was $27.00 (Didn't think Salmon was local, Wish they would have featured more local ingredients. tips for Management Get a thicker Ribeye, your thin 12 oz will not hold temps very long and you will continue to have unhappy customers. Get more servers, if you are going to charge high prices, they will be able to spend more time with guests Don't put Hot Steaks ontop of Fried onion straws they get soggy. Put on top of meat.
(2)Lesli T.
Best shrimp ever.
(4)Rob W.
You know what? It's not bad. But be warned: the location is better than the food. The view is great but don't mistake this place for a true Murrles Inlet Calabash-style seafood restaurant. It's not bad, don't get me wrong, but not the best. The location of this place is great. After dinner, you can walk out to the marsh's boardwalk and while we were there, many local artisans were around painting, basket weaving, and creating metallurgical art that was fun to pursue. But back to the food...it was good, but it didn't blow anyone away.
(3)Nancy L.
Great service and location. Service is always as important as the food, so score four for them! To me, the food was okay. Not bad, not great but you can't beat the beautiful setting. Our party LOVED the hush puppies and the grouper. I can't even remember what I had. Party of 8, food and drinks came to almost $400.
(4)Caitlyn M.
I attended a brunch wedding reception here. Gorgeous place. Fantastic food... I had seconds of everything. Blueberry french toast, Shrimp & gravy over cheesy grits, spicy sausage, broccoli & mushroom quiche, and a beautiful display of fresh fruit. The service was attentive and the view is great. I'm not sure what they're like on an average day, but based on this experience, I'd make Capt. Dave's a must on my next visit to the area.
(5)Tom B.
This place has started to go downhill. 3 years ago, this was a quiet, good atmosphere restaurant with good service and great food. I've been noticing a decline since then with an all time low today. The service was lacking. No followup from the waitress about the bland/flavorless shrimp/crab bisque which we barely touched. We weren't asked for a 2nd round of drinks, nor was our water refilled. the main course was overcooked fish without seasoning even after being sent back. I almost forgot that they own a neighboring bar and grill so you have the waiters carrying food and speeding right behind you as they head for the side door to the bar/grill. The floor boards are a little loose so the table shakes when this happens. I thought there was some sort of a dress code but apparently tie die t shirts and bootie hanging out of shorts are allowed. If these women were hot, or not overweight it may have been a little more easy on the eyes but nevertheless inappropriate for this kind of resteraunt. With a bill of close to 100 pre-tip for 2, i expected more. We wont be going back.
(2)DJ J.
A little more upscale for MB area. A piano player was playing some music, nice touch. Lots of tables leaving and filling up. We had a corner table and it was great with view of inlet. Place was a little noisy when entering with the music and crowd waiting to get tables but not when at our table and the piano music was nice background. Started with hush puppies that were perfectly cooked and very good; came with raspberry butter. Enjoyed our meals. The Swordfish looked great and it was confirmed by those eating it. Had the Carolina Crab Cakes with a delicious red pepper remoulade sauce, wild rice and veggies. Delicious! Had a good waitress. On top of refills and serving us.
(4)Beth F.
The place is confusing if you enter from the dock and the staff aren't very eager to assists. The food was bland, over priced and generic. The service was terrible.
(1)Doug C.
If you've gone to Drunken Jack's and been told you have an hour plus wait before you have to eat, you might want to consider this place. We Just returned from eating at Capt. Dave's tonight. We were a little hesitant to go after reading some of the reviews, but decided to see for ourselves. We had originally planned to eat at Drunken Jack's, but didn't want to wait two and a half hours for a table. I can say, beyond a doubt, that we made an excellent decision. Service: We had a 2 and 4 year-old with us, so speed of service is important. The ordering and delivery of food was quick and efficient. Water glasses and other beverages were filled regularly and dirty dishes were removed quickly. The Food: Everyone at the table (except the children) ordered seafood, and it exceeded our expectations. Two people had the grilled trio (shrimp, Mahi, scallops) and two people had grilled flounder. The Mahi and flounder were fresh and well-cooked. The shrimp were fresh, were well-seasoned and had a nice hint of lemon zest. Two people had the mixed green salad with candied pecans. It was OK, but not great. It certainly didn't make or break the meal. Overall, everyone was very pleased with their dinner. The Atmosphere: It was a nice, spacious restaurant with a great view of the inlet. Goats were on their way across the marsh to graze for the evening, so we enjoyed watching that. Overall: We would return as we felt the food, service and value were great for this time of year (June). I would also encourage anyone who is considering giving this a try vs. waiting more than two hours for dinner, this is a sure bet.
(4)James B.
Had dinner here while on vacation to Pawleys Island with my wife. I has the shrimp and crab bisque and my wife had the pecan salad for appetizers. Soup was good and the salad was a meal in itself but my wife said it was very good. My wife had the grilled trio (shrimp, scallops and mahi-mahi) and enjoyed it. I was in the mood for meat and had the prime rib. It was a little disappointing- too much fat and got cold quick. Their web site states casual fine dining. The only fine dining part is that the waitress wore a chef's coat. They restaurant is on the water and in Murrell's Inlet- change the place to casual and get rid of the coats. Service was also a little slow even thought there was not much of a crowd. We expected more for an "upscale" place.
(2)Fuudcritic C.
Excellent food (amazing hush puppies). Great service. Our server Hunter was very friendly and provided excellent service.
(4)Ellen T.
Great food, and wonderful location right on the Inlet. Food is reasonably priced. Hush puppies are excellent and the service was very good. Warm atmosphere - always welcomed warmly when we walk in the door. A great place to visit on a weekend night after a leisurely stroll on the Marsh Walk.
(5)Rachel B.
The food was wonderful and it's nice to sit near the window and look out on the water. The service was prompt and our waiter was pretty attentive. They are also good with younger children (I was a little worried considering this place is a bit more upscale). I can only speak to the shrimp and grits and hushpuppies but both were quite tasty and I went straight home and tried to find the recipes online.
(4)Bill S.
We enjoyed a good but not exceptional dining experience at Dave's. It's an attractive restaurant, one of the many seafood specialty establishments along Murrells Inlet's restaurant row. The food we found to be good, not uncommonly so, and the service pretty good. Three stars seems about right. The seafood platter -- your choice of two -- was nicely fried, served with french fries (a bit soggy) and cole slaw. The scallops were especially tender, the shrimps fine. There was plenty of food for the price ($22). The mussels were tangy and fresh, the thick lobster/crab bisque bowl ($8.99) served with insufficient sherry to heighten what was a bland flavor. With some extra sherry, it improved. A house salad with mixed greens came with a delicious house-made ranch dressing. Our server never brought bread, and failed to provide a glass for my beer. I had to ask. Big things wrong? Not really, I suppose, but enough small things add up. We suspect there are better places here, but we don't have time to discover them on this trip.
(3)Tim F.
There's a reason why a restaurant is empty @ 6 PM on a Saturday night during Memorial Day weekend. Should have heeded the 'clue'. Service was par, and the food? Not particularly great. Extremely overpriced for sub-par seafood. Do your homework, and go elsewhere. You'll be glad you did.
(2)Bruce B.
Drunken Jack's had a two hour wait, so we wandered in here. We were seated immediately, not a good sign. I started with the soup of the day, New England clam chowder. Not bad, but a little bland. As stated in most reviews, hush puppies are good. Next course was steamed clams, served in a buttery garlic broth with a piece of lightly toasted bread. Clams were perfectly steamed and tender, broth delicious. Main course was the grilled trio, shrimp, scallops, and fish. Very good. I would certainly go back. I do agree with others about the waitstaff from Bubba's Love Shack wandering through the dining room. Seems very out of place when you're being served by waitstaff in chef's jackets. Our waitress was very attentive and the meal was served in a timely fashion.
(4)Tom K.
A must stop if you are visiting Myrtle Beach. The food and service were great. When you dine with 2 year old twins, it's never easy. Our waiter and hostess couldn't have been more accomendating. We dined upstairs and enjoyed the view. After dinner, we walked along the inlet and onto the peer.
(4)Elizabeth W.
This is probably my favorite place to eat in Murrells Inlet. I love sitting near the window and watching the peacocks and goats on the island outside. They have a piano player who comes around to the tables and takes requests. It's a nice touch. Twice now I've done the $24 three course menu. You get an appetizer, main course and dessert. I got the mussels, the mahi over grits, and the French silk pie. The mussels and the pie are so good. The mahi is pretty good, but it's blackened, and it's really salty. The grits are delicious and they do sort of cut the salt flavor a bit. Another person in my party got grilled seafood that she commented on being very salty also, so be warned that they like their salt. The hushpuppies with honey butter are the best thing in the world. They bring those out with the water. Be careful how many you eat or you may not eat your meal. :)
(4)Rob F.
The long and short of this place is an upscale dining experience with an identity crisis. After having eaten there once, my intentions are to both 1) provide constructive feedback and 2) warn future customers that appearances are deceiving. When you walk in, all indications lead to a very classy establishment with quality fine dining. The decor is very open and deep-south elegant. The waitstaff is dressed in executive chef jackets, a nice touch, but for some reason there is a caravan of "Bubba's Love Shack" barmaids in t-shirts and short shorts toting anywhere from french fry baskets to daiquiri bongs at a constant pace through the night. Does Dave's and BLS share facilities or something? If so, perhaps there should be a less conspicuous/distracting thoroughfare. Other reviewers mentioned that the place was large-group and family-friendly. The acoustics, however were not. This place is loud, especially when you're sitting next to a bachelorette party. The hush puppies with raspberry butter are a nice departure from the norm until you discover that the cherry-tomato-sized puppies are too small to be cooked correctly. Half were fried right through, half were powdery inside, leading me to believe that they don't blend the cornmeal well enough. I ordered the wedge salad as a first course and was sorely disappointed when I saw my eighth of a head of iceberg lettuce partially sunk in a puddle of ranch dressing, with four over-fried quarters of a slice of bacon circumnavigating the wedge like tiny barges. The slice of bleu cheese was whole and propped up on the wedge. That's it folks. I've had variations on the wedge, but none so unappetizing. Since I'm "that guy," I sent it back in favor of a Caesar salad, which how could you screw that up. A ton of mayonnaisey-thick salad dressing, that's how. Suffice to say my dining experience had been polarized by now, so I won't go much further than to say that my mom's wine order was never filled, and my $24 broiled shrimp platter with 10 shrimp, pineapple salsa, broccolini and rice pilaf was flavorful, not overpowering, and we didn't bother to stay for dessert. After spotting a few fried platters on my way out, I'm totally perplexed as to why one would spend that much money on an all-beige dinner featuring half a plate of french fries. But hey, I guess you gotta give the nice people with fat wallets whatever what they want.
(2)Cyn L.
We sat outside on the deck overlooking the water and boats. There's a little island you can see with goats and peacocks. The hushpuppies they bring are good! I started with the Escargot. I hate to admit but I've had better, it was okay. I had the combination platter of grilled shrimp and crabcakes, very good!!! My husband had the $24 dinner special which included an appetizer, salad, entree & dessert. Great price for all that food! After dinner you can walk on the Creek Walk around adjoining restaurants and enjoy the atmosphere. I've been coming to the beach now over 20 years and love to visit Murrells Inlet!

Yum! Get the Lowcountry Shrimp & Grits...they were fantastic!! This is a great location, beautiful view and the food is delicious! Pricey ( the lower end entrees are $18.00 ...most of the entrees were in the $25.00 range) but worth it if you are looking for an upscale dinner in a beautiful yet, relaxed environment.

Best seafood we had while in Myrtle Beach. Our service was great, we had a baby, a toddler, a party of ten, and we were incomplete to start off with. Our server handled everything politely and was very attentive. The mahi mahi was SOOOOO yummy. The decor was classy, the view was outstanding. The hush puppies are very delicious. The best part....we had literally NO wait. We came at the middle of dinner time! The place next door had a 2 hour wait (and I ate there the next day and it was NOT worth it.)

This is one of the biggest disappointments I can remember. If you are from New York area and like good food, please don't bother. People who reviewed this place do not know any better. Murrells Inlet Seafood Capital of the world? Give me a break! Waitress said that their bacon wrapped shrimp recipe is featured in some food magazine. Do not buy that magazine. For $11 you get 4 small shrimp. JUST 4 and they are not good. For $11 more you get four small bacon wrapped scallops. Common now. Morimoto in NYC gives you beautiful portion of shrimp tempura for $16. And this is Masaharu Morimoto. Mussels in garlic sauce is a waste, Too watered down. Almost $200 for that dinner? What a rip off. And this place needs some serious renovation. Just go to some lousy chain and save your money.

Fabulous food (I had the stuffed shrimp and my husband had the mahi mahi) and wonderful service in the bar and at the table. The friends we traveled with had crab cakes (awesome) and shrimp creole (VERY spicy). The hushpuppies were tasty, the view incredible. I highly recommend Capt. Dave's. The only improvement I would recommend would be a better selection of side dishes.

After a few days at Myrtle Beach we were interested in local seafood and heard that Murrell's Inlet is known as the seafood capital of South Carolina. The reviews here led us to Capt. Dave's and we were not dissappointed. One major concern we had was how dining with our three year old and one year old would work at such a nice restaurant. From the moment we walked in we were greeted and felt welcome and were led to our waterfront table, possibly the best seat in the restaurant. We immediatly had two clean highchairs and kids menus with crayons, which made us feel like the restaurant was "kid-friendly". The service was excellent, friendly, and attentive. Our food was delivered quickly and hot and was both fresh and tasty. The hush puppy basket was yummy, some of the puppies were slightly over cooked, but still a welcome complimentary appetizer. We ordered the fried shrimp platter and the shrimp and grits specialty (forgot official name). Both were delicious. The fried shrimp tasted fresh and crispy and the shrimp and grits were very flavorful. The kids had the chicken fingers and finshed every bite, including their free ice cream at the end of the meal! The food was great, interior decor had a classic dockside feel, and the views of the inlet and pier were amazing. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and will definitely make visiting Captn. Dave's a tradition on our trips to Myrtle Beach.
